alQaws Newsletter is Out!

Dear friend of alQaws,
Welcome to our first newsletter, celebrating 10 years of organizing for sexual and
gender diversity in Palestinian society! Please follow this Link if you wish to receive
future newsletters (sent no more than quarterly).

alQaws began in 2001 as a small, local project to create a community for queer Palestinians in Jerusalem. The project provided services and materials in Arabic and initially operated under the umbrella of the
Jerusalem Open House, an Israeli Jewish community center. Since then, we have come a long way.
In order to create and lead a sustainable and mature movement, we realized we would need the freedom
to fully express our Palestinian and political identities in addition to our queer identities. As
an independent organization, alQaws has strengthened our community, created safe spaces in four cities
(Haifa, Jerusalem, Yaffa and Ramallah), developed numerous local programs, built a network of local
and international support, publicly challenged the dominant discourse on gender and sexuality in
Palestinian society, and broadened our mission, goals, and strategies. Please join us in learning about and
celebrating our activism, and working in solidarity and supporting us towards our current goals for social
change.
